March – Sacramento the long way

My son called from Portland and asked if I could manage a trip to Sac to check their mail for the last time before their postal forward went into effect. I said, “sure”.

I got up the following morning to an incredible sunrise so donned the gear and dusted off Lola and pulled her out the garage. She started right up and I checked her fluids got my ipod and off I went to Sacramento, the long way.

I headed down Scott Road to Grantline to Hwy 16 and then into Sac via Folsom Blvd. which goes through several blocks of gorgeous old homes. I got to Sac City College, where my son and daughter-in-law’s house was and checked the mail. Well, geeze…now what?? Lovely weather…full tank of gas, heck all I needed was coffee. I hit the local Starbucks and got out the Mad Map, and discovered that Freeport heads to the Sacramento Delta. Lola whispered, “let’s do it!”

Well, I wasn’t alone riding yesterday, as I can’t begin to say how many large group rides I encountered as I traversed the route to delta country. Bikes were everywhere. I kept thinking that I would see someone I knew, but didn’t. Proving that small world syndrome is not always the case!

From Isleton I headed toward Lodi, then to Ione (where my speedo turned over 30K), to Shendoah Valley, to Mt. Ackum back home. Yes, for the record, I definitely strove for the LONG way to Sacramento for a quick mail check.

What a gorgeous day and total miles from Folsom to Sac…205 miles Hilarious!

As a V-Star rider, I particularly like this entry. That is one cool purple and white bike. By chance was the “Delta Farm” photo taken on Walnut Grove-Thornton Rd. just barely west of N. Staten Island Rd., just across the bridge from Giusti’s?
