October – A Bittersweet Journey in Nevada

Saturday gave way to a morning full of details and by afternoon, we all wanted to escape to quieter more spiritual grounds. We got headed to Pyramid Lake, specifically the pyramid of the lake.

My friend and writer David Toll speaks from his book “The Complete Nevada Traveler” to give us this description:

“Pyramid Lake is not like Tahoe. It is shallower, warmer, and substantially more alkaline than Tahoe, lower in elevation, and not so easily accessible. But these differences are not the decisive ones. Tahoe is charmingly beautiful. Pyramid is a shock; in addition to its primitive, challenging beauty, it projects a profound sense of antiquity. Gazing out across its surface is an experience almost four-dimensional. To enter the enchanted realm completely, proceed around the west side of the lake to the distinctive sawtooth formation at the lake’s northwestern corner: the needles. There is a steam-sputtering hot spring here, but because of damage caused by heedless visitors access to this magnificent bathing spot is limited.”

Heading back to Mike’s home, I had to have a pic of one of the stranger now defunct businesses in Stagecoach, Nv.

The Oasis

Sunday morning brought a beautiful brunch at another friend’s home in Virginia City, which gave us the excuse to jump on the bikes and ride up. What a glorious and wonderful ride up through the Comstock. I am still amazed that there are those that can not see beauty here in Nevada.

I rode home through Lake Tahoe and down Hwy 50 taking in the cooler fall air and beautiful colors. I knew I would be home in time to cheer Gary’s birthday and enjoy my family. Life is good!
