We arrived in Red Bluff around 6:00pm, beginning to realize that we were not going to reach the coast until after nightfall. Our picture stops were limited, but we did capture a few shots before and at dusk on Hwy 36.

Under deepening dusk we rode on to S. Fork Mountain and descended to ride along the Van Duzen River. No more pics for this evening. Our sole focus was on navigating the single lane descent between Dinsmore and Bridgeville. To our great relief we arrived in Fortuna shortly before 10pm.
Day 3
While I’d ridden Hwy 36 before, I didn’t quite realize the near proximity of the Lost Coast to the terminus of Hwy 36 a few miles from Ferndale. The previous evening’s night time crossing of the western section of Hwy 36 had given Donna some fits on her low-riding V-Star. But the journey over Mattole Rd. to the Redwoods would be an even more strenuous work-out.
