The ride through Bend was uneventful and strange as I once lived in the area when my oldest son was born in 1980, and everything looked completely different, as it should, I suppose. The air was hot and dry and I decided that I should stop by the fire lookout just north of LaPine and take a couple of shots.
The ride to the top was fun on a lava rock road.

Heading south on Hwy 97, I decided that a diversion to Crater Lake was in order. I had filled my tank in Sisters, OR and was not really considering on the miles I was going to rack up by my bypass nor the fact that working gas stations were a commodity in the area. I tried several small towns after leaving Crater Lake to no avail. I was cruising on fumes. As I entered Klamath Falls, I stopped at the first station, which happened to be a Chervron. I had traveled 196.5 miles on my tank o’ gas and it took 4.51 in a tank that holds 5.1. Phew, see, I still had gas to spare even. My bandit is a GREAT machine.
