Well, the time has come to go and visit my father in Yerington, NV and with that event another road trip shapes up!
To Yerington and back to Sacramento is about a 400 mile round trip and with the beautiful Spring weather, it seems totally appropriate to extend the ride to 3K and take in some country I have not seen in years! So, after leaving NV, I will head to the first stop of Panaca, NV and visit a not yet met friend and his wife from the pashnit.com forum, unless there is a change in plan and when motorcycle touring one must always be ready for change!
For now, lets take a look what goes on the bike for an extended journey. I know that some of what I pack may seem superfluous to many, but I know what works for me and how to pack it on the bike. I am still amazed by those that motorcycle camp. I am interested, but can’t imagine having even more stuff to allot onto the bike. My bike is heavy enough already!
My most important pieces go in my top bag. I place my computer and all the cords and charger there as well as a jean jacket and a pair of jeans and tennis shoes. I also always have a sketch book, just in case!
My cell phone goes in my tank bag so that it is handy.
I carry two sets of gear wearing one and packing the other. I wore my touring set, which is wind and waterproof, but take my vented as well as my gerbing heated gear. It can double as a liner to my vented gear.
My clothes I bag in ziplock bags grouping by catagory. Undies and sleep gear, t-shirts and tops, pants, toiletries.
Always remember to pack the heaviest things on the bottom, keeping the weight low!!
Once the bike is packed…it looks like this!
Not to bad considering all that is on him. I also have a GPS on a handlebar mount as well as my Ipod remote.
I am ready to go touring for any amount of time!
