Another one of the guest rooms

The following day we traversed Izzy Paulina to County rd. 20 another goat trail full of cows. Then over Hwy 26 and many other backroads to finally get to Ukiah to try and grab dinner. Well…that was rather fruitless (so to speak…:)) The town had no electricity. The store had a guy sitting outside leaning back in his chair who as soon as we turned off our motorbikes said, “I hope you bought that bike with the Obama sticker already on it”. Oh dear.
Gary promptly chuckled and replied that he not only put it on his bike but had voted for the man. Geeze…this guy wanted to argue. I just wanted to leave town as I could hear the banjo music. ( ya i know I’m a bleedin’ liberal…:) ) We grabbed some canned tuna and crackers and left for our destination of Lehman Hot Springs.
Hwy 244 was lovely.

We were scooting along at a spirited pace and passed a pickup truck who obviously didn’t like us passing him. He gunned his truck and got right on my a$$ doing nearly 80. It was just beginning to be a bit intense when we arrived at our turn off…phew.
Our arrival at Lehman Hot Springs was one of total disappointment. Contrary to their website, the place was a run down mess. Our cabin didn’t have any running water, though there was a shower and toilet, neither worked. The bed linens looked slept in and the floor and countertops had dead bugs. The road in was a gravel road covered in ruts with loose gravel and the hill to the cabin a mess. The base of the cabin had black plastic staple gunned I assumed to either hide the dead bodies of the previous guests or to keep rodents out, both of which bothered me. The pool closed early and opened late, so I couldn’t even enjoy the hot spring!! We kissed our pre-paid fee of $95 bucks goodbye and left for La Grand.

The pools looked ok…but then they were closing as we arrived!

At least the ride to La Grand had gorgeous lighting and scenery. Oh what a sunset!!

We ended up in Pendleton, OR for our overnight, since many of the motels in La Grande, were full! Both of us were tired and it was nearly 10 pm when we arrived. We blew off dinner and drank…much more fun! 🙂
When i arose the following morning, I decided to let Gary sleep as it was pouring rain. When I got him up, around 9am, it was clearing and sunny. We packed the bikes and heading to Portland via I84, my least favorite route, but nearly every other direction we could see rain.
Well…the wind on I84 is tremendous. I don’t believe I have ever ridden in worse. It was the kind of wind that tired you out just keeping the bike on the roadway!! Then to add insult to injury the light showers turned into torrential rain. Wow…every truck that we passed or passed us doused us in a virtual sunami. I was exhausted upon our arrival to Portland and still had to cope with the huge traffic back up. We inched our way, not having the ability to lane split. Eventually Gary and I got separated and we made our way to my mother’s house individually.
Oh what a day!!
