The CO journey begins! Sacramento, CA to Ely, NV

Had the bike packed and was on the road by 9am. For those of you that know me, this is a serious feat considering I didn’t make my usual 5 trips back into the house for forgotten items! It’s amazing when a plan comes together.

The one thing I didn’t plan was how chilly it would be when passing through Lake Tahoe. High 70s when I left Sacramento and down into the low 50s over Hwy 50 passes! I had on a mesh jacket with long underwear underneath, but could have donned much more. I was glad when I dropped down off Spooner Pass to Carson City, although it still was NOT warm!!

Most of my ride to my overnight stop in Ely was pretty tame, even to the point of downright dull! But from Austin, NV to Ely, the road found some twists and the scenery was lovely. The elevations varied between 6000 ft and 7500 ft which kept the air from warming much. Note to self: wear touring jacket tomorrow!

I took very few photos, but I did manage a few with my new camera.

I have been meaning to shoot this every time I pass it, but I never stop and take the time. Today, I had a surplus of time so got out the camera to bug hunt!

The loneliest Highway

Two night shots from in front of the Hotel Ely. Reminds me of the song from Sesame Street, “one of these things doesn’t go with the others”. I was the sole owner of the “jap crap” ; )

Tomorrow Ely to Moab!
