Day 2–Ely, NV to Moab, UT

The morning came early or maybe I should say the night never ended. Down the hall in the Hotel Ely, a vintage hotel casino, a lively all night party brewed and by 2 am I’d had quite enough. Rather than yell out the door as others had done and been ignored, I put on earplugs. ahhhhh.
After 6am I dragged my sorry tired bottom out of bed and started schlugging stuff to my bike. The bank’s reader board said it was 32degrees out….brrrrrr. I needed coffee and a time killer to allow the sun to hit the bike. By 8 i was packed the bike warmed up and I had all my heated gear in place. I couldn’t believe it was still only 42. I bid the ubiquitous Harleys adieu and traversed across Hwy 50 toward UT.

The loneliest Highway

The air warmed and filled with the aroma of heating sage, ah, another day of desert riding. The highway between Ely and Great Basin NP is gorgeous, brimming with elevation changes and nice sweepers then you pass the park…ouch. Nothing for miles. I resorted to singing into my helmet and trying to stay under 100mph.

To remain of Hwy 50 you have to do some serious traversing. Hinckley, I filled with gas, spoke to a gorgeous young woman who had nothing nice to say about Hinckley, gee, I wonder why? *wink wink* and made a couple of phone called to my family. I even drank a Rockstar energy drink since much of the road was a dull as elementary scissors. The roads really didn’t get good again until Fishlake NF and remained pretty decent even though I was on Interstate 70. I frankly was surprised at what the lovely interstate scenery, a delightful treat!

Salina, UT

Interstate 70…check out those tar snakes!!

The real icing on the cake of this day came riding Hwy 128, a road Gary and I had ridden together on the Southwest Tour earlier this year. What an awesome road in both scenery and ride. Riding nirvana!

This photo is fuzzy…but I had to post for the road and view!

In a word…WOW

I arrived in Moab only to discover I had lost an hour, so I checked into my motel and took a quick swim then walked to the store for salad bar, which I was told was excellent. They were right.

Now the only puzzle was that it was Sunday and UT, no wine to be had. I had to settle with Bud light with Clamato and lime. It was actually pretty refreshing and made my sparkling water taste like a gin fizz.

I am feeling content but wish Gary were here to share the beauty. Tomorrow Moab to Redstone CO over some amazing virgin roads for this girly rider!

Nighty night…
