Day 10–Cortez to Torrey

Inside Capitol Reef NP…and at sunset!!

As I was composing this pano, I saw some deer in the open meadow. I was completely concentrating on the shot when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I jumped a short 2 feet and in doing so scared the guy that was trying to speak with me! Nothing like scaring one another. He was dirty and looked errant but after some sign language I discovered he was Bruno from Paris, who spoke NO English and was trying desperately to tell me something. Well best I could ascertain he was showing me the deer and how they were very near his motorcycle parked off in the brush. He must have been lonely as he was speaking French as quick as he could and giving me lots of signing to help with translation. He was very sweet and I totally enjoy meeting fellow travelers, but I was ready to get back on the road!

Sunset over Capitol Reef

I quickly headed for my motel in Torrey, The Capitol Reef Inn. I arrived only 15 minutes before the kitchen closed at 9:00pm. I grabbed a quick shower and went and ordered and they were kind enough to keep it open for me. I had a nice salad and a couple glasses of wine and bread pudding…yummy!! After I was satiated, I headed for the hot tub to assure a good night of sleep! Yawn.

My plan the following day was to get to Panaca, NV and to my friend Randal’s home. It just wasn’t meant to be.
