Sportbikes are NOT for beginners: our military’s thorn at home

The Associated Press has a new article reporting on the increased rate of death and accident to off-duty military personnel.

With hundreds of motorcycle deaths in the ranks of off-duty marines, soldiers and sailors over the last several years, the military is requiring rider training classes and organizing racing events for a safe adrenaline rush. The problem now seems to be educating soldiers to start on smaller displacement machines and when skills improve, moving to larger more powerful machines.

“Military safety officials say nearly all of the fatal accidents occurred with riders on racing-style sport bikes. Speed, a lack of riding experience and inability to handle the high-performance motorcycles were factors in the vast majority of the crashes.”

I believe we need more education in the military to promote safer riding.

Our government can not afford to lose military personnel to preventable motorcycle accidents. Let’s give our troops a leg up when it comes to safely operating a motorcycle and start providing motorcycle training at every base!
