My room at the hotel

The lobby

The local tavern that was open on a Monday. Many are closed.

A fountain in the square

This town had only 750 people and those that I encountered were very kind and the town lovely. I had no qualms leaving the GS parked in the town square.

The hotel was simply awesome. Restored with love, the proprietors a lovely couple with a young daughter did all they could to make my stay comfortable and authentic, serving amazing Spanish meals. Dinner was optional, but I took advantage of the idea of a home cooked meal, and I was not disappointed. Lucy served a first course of tuna served on homemade bread and toasted with some cheese. Second course was a stew of chickpeas, her mother-in-laws family recipe. Delicious. Dessert was a festive pudding. The entire meal was served with both a white and red Spanish wine.
For this meal, I was invited to join the other guests, a group on “walking holiday” from England. These people came to Spain to walk it. I was amazed! Of course they were rather amazed with this crazy American woman riding solo through southern Spain.
After a wonderful night’s sleep, I got up “early” and went out to photograph the lovely town of Alájar. Upon my return I ate a most amazing breakfast consisting of traditional fare. A plate of small dishes with pate, fresh honey, homemade jam, cheeses, breads, olive oils, and cereal and milk. Ummmm. You can see photos of the hotel, town, rooms and meals at La Posada.
