The latest issue of the AMA magazine listed the best roads in the US for motorcycling as polled by members. I must say, I totally agree with most they listed, but each one of us covets our own favs. With that spirit, I am asking what your favorite riding road is, so that I may increase my bucket list of areas to tour, but I don’t really expect you to provide only one! Please, do tell!
I have a few favorites and there is no way I could list only ONE road, but it’s amazing that most of these are within my local riding areas!! Lucky me, eh?? Here is a list of a few of my favs:
Hwy 168 from Big Pine, CA connecting to Hwy 266 in NV over Lida Summit a taste of desert beauty with some wonderful twisties!
Rossi’s Driveway Hwy 229 Central CA a twisting turning barrel of giggles!!
Forks of Salmon Forest Hwy 93 is a gritty, goaty, single paved track of heaven and at the far end, a perfect twisting pavement arriving in Callahan, CA
You descend into this valley….beautiful!
The Lost Coast: Ferndale via Mattole Rd, CA. More goat heaven with the most amazing coastal vantages ever!!
Ferndale, a really nice town to enjoy lunch and wander.
… and you end up here in the Redwoods!
Ok, this last one isn’t in the US but I had to list it! The amazing route I chose in the country of Spain running between Granada and the scenic village of Alajar is one of the top roads I have ever ridden! It’s definitely one of the finest roads I have experienced in surface and beauty! Both vast and beautiful, it’s difficult to imagine a rival!
I found myself here in the scenic village of Alajar.
Now I realize not everyone can ride this road…but we can all aspire to it and DREAM!!
Please post up your favorite riding roads for others to consider or dream about. There is nothing as wonderful as planning another year of touring the “best roads ever!!”
