Next week I’ll be embarking on my first adventure of the season, riding to AZ and NM with Dave, an ol’ friend from Alaska who just purchased a Wee-Strom. In the last few months he has been touring Thailand on a cute little 250, riding 2 up with his girl friend, so the Suzuki 650 V-Strom will be a nice change for touring the US. He is also quite tall, so the ergos of the bike are well suited. He is a returning rider, having ridden many bikes many years ago. As of late he has only ridden the smaller format machines so the V-Strom will no doubt be a treat!
He has recently done alot of sightseeing in Southeast Asia, even finding his way to Africa. You can read all about his travels on his blog, I’m Outta Here. I have to say, his pictures are alluring and compelling enough to stimulate even the most homebody of Americans. The lush countryside of Thailand and the amazing vistas and animals of Africa made for a very satisfying trip, to say nothing of the time he was able to spend with his beautiful girlfriend, Nut.
So, with all that amazing travel in mind, I created a route that he will hopefully find enjoyable and stimulating as we take our adventures to the historic Southwest to visit friends and see new sights. This will be my 4th trip to the Southwest and there are several roads that I find totally absorbing. So, naturally, I plan on running some repeat roads, but we will also be adding some new routes to the “roads less traveled” and I can’t wait! The warmth of the Southwest, the spring flowers and the tourist-free season is enough stimuli to create a very exciting journey!
The maps can be found on Google using the links below. Heading to Tucson and Bisbee is a bit rote, but there are a few very fun roads. We may tweak as we go, too. It’s coming home that will be amazing, as those are some of the most awesome roads I have ever ridden. You can see photos of them in the following posts.
Goin’ South You can follow the links at the top of each post and can see the entire route which covered several days.
I mean how much better does it get than the wall o’ beer!
Well… scenically, this ismuch better, riding the Mokee Dugway
Then there’s the ride Gary and I took in 2009, which was totally amazing. Link found here: Riding the Grease
From Antelope Canyon
To the awesome open road…
The routes for Dave and my journey are here:
At this point there is no set duration for this journey. We’ll sort of take it as it comes, visiting friends.
Wish us well, and a ride report will be sure to follow on both our blogs!!
