A stroll around the block, a video message

I did a little impromptu video from my front door and around the block. To give a sense of where we live. Lots of unscripted commentary.

Couple of things I could have been clearer about. 1) There is no garbage pickup where we have lived in Cordoba. All trash is taken to the nearby bins. You sort recycling into the usual categories before dropping them.

2) It’s siesta. Not fiesta. Big difference. In Cordoba and around Andalusia, as I understand it, the world lives in a split shift. Stores & businesses open between 9 and 10am, then close again at 1:30 or 2 until 5pm. Then open again until 8 or 9. Restaurants operate differently. They’re open during siesta then close at 5 until 8 or 9pm. In either case, it seems workers here do part of a shift then part of another shift. This is taking a bit to get used to since there things you just can’t do at certain times of day.

Cheers… LD numero dos.

  1. Great Hood. The iron work is great. Are there a lot of Vandals there? Or just common per chance criminals. The doors and iron in Spain are beautiful. Never knew why there is so much steel security. Very enjoyable. Gracias. Take care amigos, usa is in trouble.

    • Well, I had to do a little refresher on marauding Germanic tribes via Wikipedia to fact check ya. It’s the Visigoths who took over Cordoba from Rome. After they defeated… the Vandals. Hard to keep track of zee Germans from Roman times. I actually started to write something to accompany the video, about how the neighborhood here is quite safe, in spite of all the bars (and tabernas). But I honestly don’t know how the practice of putting bars over every damned window originated here. Presumably for safety. But I feel pretty safe, even from the graffitti kings/queens here.

Trump is a distant menace here. Not many peeps on the streets taunt us about him. We even found a barkeep who proclaimed how much he liked Trump. Go figure…
