Riding the Grease: Gary’s take on the scenery!

Gary’s take on Riding the Grease!

So, Donna’s told the tale of a fabulous ride and she suggested I post some of the pix I took on the trip. Indeed, she said I oughta post my top 10 pix from the trip… Top 10… outta 650? Mhmm, I’ll remember that when she’s getting ready to post up her next grand tour.

But here’s 20 of my favs from the trip, beginning with some silliness for the kiddies near the Grand Canyon. Yabba-dabba-dooooo!

Pano of some of those can’t-take-a-bad-shot vistas…

At, you know, the big holes in the ground?

K, down to 17 pix, better move on to the next day and Antelope Canyon, seen from above…

And from below…

Another day, another state… welcome indeed!

Gratuitous bike/scenery shot in Monument Valley…

Bike/scenery porn… :love

Moving right along, to…

SE Utah

I think Donna is of the belief that if you post no tourists in yer photos, they cease to exist. Wishful solipsistic thinking… but here they are at Mesa Verde…

Foreclosed… c. 1300AD

We were only on Colorado’s roads for half a day, and the western rises of the mountains feature some pretty shitty pavement. Duly warned…

The wind blew us outta Colorado and back to Utah. Seems the winds are bad here too, though… what’s missing from this old bridge? Hmmm….

Another spectacular red canyon…

Triple (!!) the pleasure of a most awesome ride companion, through the wonders of pano technology…

Arches NP delights and amazes… thin slabs set upright for best viewing…

Spring flowers in the desert… posers

Moving right along, through Capitol Reef, home of the never-ending long vistas…

And then we got to the Escalante/Staircase National Monument, where the state of Utah prefers mandatory speed limit reductions for the twisties, rather than the friendly yellow speed warnings. Looking to take a 25-mph shimmy at 55? Not in Utah… if a tight curve is coming, the limit goes down to 30. And for someone riding on one performance award in the national parks, I was seriously frustrated by this circumscription to slalom the twisties at will. Grrr…

Red rocks = red roads in Zion NP

Leaving Las Vegas, final day homeward, we mixed it up with a crew of LV police on little enduros… We were slowed enough for a picture opp before they peeled off into the desert… practicing for Burning Man perhaps? Or maybe just arrayed to take on an entire parade of Harleys holding up traffic… (if only… :D)

Til next time… ride safe…
