It began as a simple Recon ride to gather up all the info we might possibly need for the girly ride. I mean, one never knows what one might encounter. The weather was HOT so, let’s see how we fair sans the cooling vests!!
Holly, Kharon and I left Sacramento late, and decided to slab it up Hwy 50 to Sly Park and take Mormon Immigrant Trail to Silver Fork looping back to Hwy 50. Neither Holly nor Kharon had ridden it. I love introducing new blood especially when it is a rare type! The road is awesome!!
We stopped at a bridge on the Silver Fork to take in the gorgeous vistas. While we were there we heard gunshots. I know that probably isnt’t unusual in the outback country, but it just seemed odd to me, coming all this way out to this pristine country to target practice. Someone explain that to me like I am 5.
Plenty of water so far, but it’s not yet August!
SilverFork ends in Kyburz, onto Hwy 50 and let me tell you there must be a better way. The road ends left which is fine if you want to go left, but if you are desiring going right toward Lake Tahoe, it isn’t an easy entrance. You have little visibility and the traveling speed on the road is 50+. You just have to go for it.
Once on the road we found that the traffic was S L O W. We were immersed in a traffic snake of no less then 10 vehicles all following two motorhomes, of which neither believed in using turnouts. In the snake of traffic was a CHP and I was seriously trying to figure our why he didn’t stop them for impeding traffic!! :whistle At Meyers we took Hwy 89 to Hwy 88. It was smooth sailing from there to Markleeville and Monitor pass!
No photos…just some amazing riding over the pass…what a glorious ride!!
We grabbed dinner in Coleville at the Meadowcliff Lodge. Food was excellent but you can’t be in a hurry. Service was definitely on a mellow pace!! 😀
We arrived at West Walker Motel in time to check in and open that first cervasa.
Love the vintage neon and the motorcycle mascot!
The following day we made our way to Twin Lakes. My dad told me we used to go there when I was a kid, since I grew up in that area, but damned if i can remember it!!
Holly and Kharon taking in the sun.
That evening I finally was able to get online and found out about Tyler. We had been without cell service or internet. I was stunned and saddened as were Kharon and Holly. I believe that definitely changed the “feel” of the ride. We were all quite subdued and saddened by this terrible news.
On Sunday, we headed for home after eating at Whoa Nellie Deli…OMG…what amazing fish tacos. Sorry no pictures…we ate them!! ; )
We did stop on the overlook above Whoa Nellie Deli to snap a group shot.
We decided to ride over Tioga and into Yosemite. It was lovely but the dynamics of Tyler’s accident hung over the entire ride home as each of us worried about our pal.
The traffic in the park was typical for summer and with a 45mph posted, I wasn’t about to push my luck…nothing worse than a USNPS award!
This bastid kept coming up on my bottom. Apparently the 45mph didn’t apply to 18wheelers. :scratch What was a diesel doing in the park anyway??? I thought they weren’t allowed…am i wrong, dude, am I wrong???
Once we worked our way to Copperopolis, we parted ways. The valley heat had risen logarithmically. We were seriously cooked. I stopped in Angels Camp for ice, water and a depleting iced coffee, thought it tasted particularly excellent. I was overbaked! I took the back way to Sac getting lost in my stupor. I rode Poloma Rd.(one of the best roads ever!!) to Pardee dam and then somehow got lost. I ended up quite a bit south and then jumped on 99 back to Sac. I got home after dark, a very tired girl. I checked on Tyler as soon as I got home. She was hanging in there and Jaime, her sister was her ethereal voice. Thanks Jaime…time and time again!!
Get well, Tyler and take all the time you need, but we certainly miss you girlfriend!
