Guenevere Schwien paints lots of subjects but the most impressive is a new painting she has done on a commission for a patron. The work looks to be about 9’x5′ and shows the undercarriage of a red Ducati 1098. She bagan by taking many photos of the bike, and studied different compositions before embarking on the project. She choose wood to back the painting which would be done in oils. She prefers wood rather than canvas, because wood provides a smoother finish and an archival lifespan for the work. The work, taking 3 months to complete, left her feeling empty when the time came for the finished work to be delivered to the patron.
“I didn’t want to give it up when I finished it” Guenevere explained about her feelings for the painting. “The day I finished, I didn’t know what to do with myself”. Her feelings at the end of the process were a strange mixture of success and loss.
Guenevere is a representational artist leaning toward photo realism. She is building a strong reputation for her motorcycle paintings. Her other subject matter include bubbles, rainy landscapes and most recently desserts. She currently works in Portland, Or. You may see more of her Motorcycle Paintings.
