Drive SANELY, after all this is Nevada! More old maps…

The old Nevada maps were a blast to peruse. The first was from 1954.

Nevada 1960 … wazup with the cover photo? They couldn’t find anything better for a cover photo? I mean the Sierra Mountains are lovely but that photo is NOT. A better subject might be Pyramid Lake, Lake Tahoe, Walker Lake, Virginia City, the Comstock??

Nevada 1961-62

My favorite section on the Nevada maps are the pavement markings, a small section on each map.

1954… Love the DRIVE SANELY–if only people would–which brings me to the fact that when this map was printed there was NO speed limit in Nevada. Now that’s sane. ; )

Something that all these maps had in common was this shot of the Las Vegas Bombing and Gunnery Range, which is now called the Nellis Air Force Range. There’s no longer any mention of bombing or guns. I assume this is a remnant of the “duck and cover” days.

Some cool map details:

Gotta love the vintage artwork and the litho colors that are as rich today as they were 50 years ago! Now…let’s go riding!
