I feel a bit remiss being absent from my blog for nearly three weeks now, but I was traveling in Europe with family and the wifi connections were simply not adequate to get my photos uploaded and to follow though with a post. It’s been a bit crazy, traveling with my mother-in-law and sis-in-law as well as my husband, Gary. The visit to Germany and Italy were not quite as we imagined, but whenever you have so many people in the mix, there are definitely differences in overall tourist desires.
This was not a riding holiday, but I did get some great shots of motorcycles and scooters and will be creating a follow up post with the “scooters in Italy”. I know that anyone that has been to Italy will agree that these scooter riders are amazing defensive riders with brass cojones. My overall opinion estimated that drivers in Europe are simply better and more defensive that here in America. They are also more alert and aggressive, but statistically have less accidents. That said, the pace is quick and the response time quicker. It’s crazy driving in Italy, and I give total kudos to my husband and his skills for keeping us all safe!
As we traveled, I pondered riding in Spain last year and had to pat myself on the back for taking on this adventure. I had never driven in Europe except for a brief period while in Germany several years ago, so my renting and riding a motorbike to ride solo in Spain was indeed what I would now consider “adventurous”. Funny, at the time, I didn’t give the journey much thought and I believe this was due to all the solo riding I had done in North America. Riding in Spain was simply another touring adventure!
I must admit to not seeing many touring riders on larger format machines. We saw plenty of scooters mostly found in the urban/congested areas, but there were a few motorcycles out and about. Here are a few that we saw!
Love all the equipment in this shot!
I shot this from inside our rental car, but you can see just how narrow the roads along the Amalfi Coast can be!
Another tunnel view!
A road descending into the Sorrento area along the coast.
This must be a Transalp model sold only in Europe as I have never seen one here.
Beautiful roads along the Amalfi Coast!
Next post….SCOOTERS!!!
