I have always been an advocate of starting small and working your way up to a larger displacement motorcycle. It’s how I began riding and usually, for those successful and ongoing riders, starting small was indeed the factor. I can’t stress enough just how much confidence one can get on a machine that can easily be piloted, flat-footed and maneuvere. So, I was more than pleased to discover that a riding friend had written a wonderful guide regarding the best bikes for beginners.
Carla King a successful motorcyclist and adventure travel writer has put together a wonderful little PDF booklet for women who are beginning to ride and would like some guidence on the best motorcycles to choose as a first machine. She has put a lot of detail and thought into this booklet and it’s both visually fun and packed with wonderful into.
You can find your copy for free download here on her website.
One of the bikes Carla loved is the new Honda Grom. It’s really quite the little trooper of a beginner bike and many an experienced rider has been having a fast and fun time testing it out!
Here’s how Cycle World sums up the Grom: “Just like the original Honda Mini Trail, there’s no better trainer. The Grom’s about as intimidating as a puppy, the seat’s lower than the specs indicate, and the whole experience slices decades off your age (if you have any spare decades). A dark faceshield is a good idea if you’re an old guy, so people will chalk up the way you’re riding to youthful exuberance instead of advanced immaturity.”
I don’t know, looks like a whole bunch o’ fun to me! I believe I just have to go and test one out!
Does anyone else have a good beginner bike selection they’d like to share and please tell us why you recommend it!
Cheers and safe riding!! 😉
