This is the 5th annual Girly Ride and every year is wonderful, but this year’s ride will stand out foremost as the “best one ever”. I simply can’t imagine it being any better, ever! I mean the roads this year were amazing and the areas where we rode outstanding and memorable, however it’s the riders that make it what it is. It’s the ability to place 27 women of mixed ages, professions, skills and aspirations on one three day adventure that seals forever their bond. I mean, I have have not only grown friendships in this outstanding environment, but have met soul mates, that kind I will continue to nurture throughout life and I am absolutely certain I am not alone. It’s like having a secret handshake that only those that have attended know and can share with a learned grin.
Grinning our way across Northern CA, we rode unsurpassed roads. Our route was one for the ages, traveling twisties, a bit o’goat with ocean views and river runs, and the mighty Redwood Avenue of the Giants. We spent time hashing out the heat, flat tires, bad hair and strategies for better riding to say nothing of the evenings spent in wild abandon involving inebriates and tall tales. I don’t believe there was one of us, that didn’t totally enjoy the encounter, every bloody moment!
The ride up to our meet place was less inspiring, involving some traversing on I5 in 100 degree heat. One of my best pals, Sarah was leading our group of three, including her mother, Liz. Now Liz is another subject. This is an outstanding female who has started riding with her daughter and is a true cowgirl on the back on her motorcycle. Let’s just say she certainly knows how to ride it. Anyway, the three of us rode some fun side roads on our way to Weaverville the meet spot for the following day’s ride. We even got to take a dip in the Whiskeytown Reservoir and what a relief that was, in this hot hot heat! We arrived in Weaverville, got situated in our cabin once we dusted off the couch cobwebs, poured a cold one and proceeded to meet and greet the other riders.
Liz and her trusty ninja.
Sarah, Liz and I were crop dusted on I5, where trying to watch the skilled pilot and remain one was challenging. ๐
Sara was leading our group and was doing her best to keep us off the interstate. She succeeded wonderfully.
California is still quite verdant and lush, even for July.
Looking more like what one expects in summer.
