Ironwork: scrolling beauties for strolling neighborhoods.

The daily dog walk has presented oohs and ahs, the likes of which never cease to fascinate and stimulate, especially seeing the outcome of the artist’s creativity.

One such creation is the amazing iron scroll work done here in Spain.  It covers many windows, doors, garage entrances, and patio entries.  It is used for security, decorative elements and exudes a strong sense of Spanish design and history.

Cordoba is no exception in historic design.  The city is ancient and modern both, with everything running in between.  Everywhere you gaze you can visualize the innovators’ artistic elements, from the stone streets to the beautiful tile work. But I am straying from my subject: iron scrollwork.

When I see this I hear baroque music.

Detailed work over glass. Lovely.

The scrollwork is great, but the stonework design above is stellar! I have never seen it with the security screen up. I wonder what the doors underneath are wearing.

This window is found on our apartment.

I have seen this design in several places. It must be a common theme.

Beautiful and old.

Interesting and new. I found this one quite the modern take on an age old tradition.

We walk by this place going to our local market, Piedra. The building is in rough condition and all of the rooms above have their windows open to the air and some even have curtains billowing in the evenings like a haunted spirit. There are never any lights on, and no signs on inhabitants that I have seen. Yet, there is a sparkling jet black Mercedes sedan parked blatantly in this space where there are “no parking” signs. It has a huge oddly made tow hitch that looks incredibly out of place. Who knows the story there?

This one is really gorgeous and a person fave!

This was an unusual one due to the color. It’s just around the corner, a door los dos numero dos touched on in his video tour around the block.

Spain, for the most part, is fairly austere in their housing colors and designs. Like many of the old churches, they speak quietly outside and shout inside. They are amazingly decorated. The mosaic below is on the patio wall, behind the blue door. It’s an absolutely stunning statement of design and beauty from the studio of Cordobese artist Salvador Morera.

Today we celebrate the amazing designs in iron scroll work. Adorning so many original Spanish homes. Many we walk by daily. Just ask Ella, she can tell you all about the area, rain or shine.
